It seems like I blinked and now we’re here–on the eve of winter break. This is the most anticipated break for both students, but especially teachers. There’s a whole lot I’m grateful for today, but I’m so grateful for this chance to relax and focus on my health.
If you read my last post, you’ll know that these past few weeks have been really tough for me. I’m still not feeling well and my symptoms don’t seem to be subsiding (don’t worry, I’m seeing doctors). When you’re not feeling your best but don’t have any definitive answers on what exactly is the root of these symptoms, it feels like a terrible guessing game. I’m grateful I’ll get the chance to prioritize my health in the next couple of weeks. I want to feel 100% again. I want to genuinely smile and feel my best. I mean, don’t we all? 🙂
These past few weeks have also deepened my gratitude to my friends and family. I’m thankful I have a safe group of family and friends (especially coworkers, whom have been so sweet) to open up to about my health issues. They’ve checked up on me, offered kind words, and let me know that it’s okay not be okay. I usually present a strong front, but I’m learning that sometimes I need to be vulnerable and let people know what I’m going through. I’m learning to lean on others when I need to.
I’m grateful for my sweet students who wrote me uplifting thank you notes–they definitely put a smile on my face and kept my tank fueled so that I could keep pushing through this week.
I’m also extremely grateful I get to see my family next week! I can literally count the amount of times I see them in a year on one hand now (so sad) and so winter break is one of my most cherished times I get to spend with my family. Oh and did I mention that means I get to soak up the California sunshine?! This Cali girl could not be more excited to say “see you later” to my winter coats even if it’s just for a week. 🙂
